Tahoe City
Tahoe City is the oldest settlement of North Lake Tahoe. The quaint downtown district with cobblestone walks and historical buildings are ideally suited for exploring on foot. Of special interest are Fanny Bridge and the Bridgetender Restaurant, located at the “Y” intersection of Highways 89 and 28 in Tahoe City. Fanny Bridge Tahoe City received its name because of all the Fannies you see from the road as people stare over the railing of the bridge into the water to watch schools of Rainbow Trout year round. The Gatekeepers Cabin in this same location was built in the 1900’s to house the gatekeeper, in charge of releasing water out of Lake Tahoe. After it burned in the late 1970’s it was rebuilt and is now home to the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society Museum. The museum showcases historical photographs, articles of clothing, documents and publications of Lake Tahoe and its Steam Boat history, the 1960 Winter Olympics, and the Marion Steinbach Indian Basket Museum, an extensive collection of baskets, pottery, and articles of clothing and jewelry. Watson’s Log Cabin operates as a living museum featuring the century old furnishings and accessories of local historians. Tahoe City Commons Beach is host to outdoor concerts, a weekly farmers market and the July 4th fireworks each summer season. The Cobblestone Mall, Boatworks Mall and Roundhouse Mall all offer shoppers a variety of unique clothing and gift shops, restaurants, and art galleries. The Tahoe City Golf Course offers a fun 9-hole golf experience as well as casual dining in the sports bar. Great for a leisurely round of golf, it is also one of the least expensive courses on the Lake. Tahoe City Real Estate has many options to choose from when looking for a full-time residence, Lakefront or vacation home, resort condominium community or cabin.
